1979, Gabon. 9-year-old Luc sees a Kung Fu movie for the first time and it’s a revelation: Chinese can fly. Against his family’s wishes and to the bewilderment of his local community, Luc is determined to travel to China fly and like his onscreen hero, Jackie Chan. Fast-forward to the present day, Luc Bendza has been living in China for 31 years, is a member of the prestigious wushu community, and is the star of dozens of Kung Fu movies. How is it that a little boy from Gabon could eventually become a figurehead in an art form so integral to Chinese traditions and culture?

Followed by a panel discussing spirituality, well being and identity within the African context.

Samantha Biffot

Gabonese director and screenwriter Samantha Biffot was born in Paris in 1985. She grew up abroad between Asia and Africa and came back to Paris to follow cinema studies . After working in several productions companies in Paris, she went back to Gabon in 2010 where she started her own production company developping TV series, documentary and movies. As of today, she already won the prize for “Best African Series” at FESPACO 2013.
